The Yule Goat / Julbock

The super cute Yule Goat has come to bring us lot of presents for the new year. Presents such as "Smile more often" and "Make Others Smile as Well!". And a wish for a new year loaded of very good moments.

But that's not all! It also wants to tell a little piece of its story to all the nice people who love to hear stories (yes, that's you!) ^_^

The Yule Goat is a very old Scandinavian and Northern European winter tradition and predates the christian Christmas by thousands of years. Back then people used to celebrate something as simple, nice and meaningful as the change of season: the Winter Solstice, the time when the Sun returns after the winter's cold. This celebration was called Yule.

The Yule Goat, (Swedish, Julbock) is one of the oldest Scandinavian "Christmas" symbols. Its origin is the legend about the Thundergod Thor who rode in the sky in a wagon pulled by two goats. But it could be also based on other kind of traditions from the Celtic mythology.

The cute Yule Goat at one time also brought Yule gifts; but this character was later replaced with "Jultomten" (Santa Claus).
